Everything You Need to Know about Getting a Body Piercing When You’re Under 18

Piercings are super cool and if you grow up in or around Straya, you’ve probably seen your share of blokes and sheilas with some cracker piercings on them. You may have even wondered when you would be able to get your own. Well, you wouldn’t be the first!
Body piercings have been around for longer than you can imagine and have even been used by numerous cultures to signify the completion of various rites of passage. Though the piercing you’re looking to get is probably not something to do with a developmental or cultural transition, it is still something you want to put a little thought into!

Getting a Body Piercing When You’re under 18

You can get body piercings pretty much at any point in your life. It’s really about what suits you and when! If however, you’re under the age of 18 and are thinking about going in for a body piercing; here are some things you should know!

Know Where You Want It

The first thing you should know when going in for a piercing when you’re under 18 is where you want it. You’ve got dozens of placement options to choose from so it would really help if you were clear on where you wanted your piercing in advance. Though a piercing might not be as massive a commitment as say a tattoo, it still is a semi-permanent physical modification.

For this reason, to avoid any possible regrets, know where you want your piercing placed well before you go in.

Know It’s Going to hurt a Little

A piercing can be anything from mildly irritating to fairly painful or uncomfortable depending on where you get it. One of the worst things is getting a piercing just to take it off before it has set because you can’t bear the sensation.
Understand that there are parts of your body which are more sensitive than others and know that certain placements might cause some degree of pain in the initial few days.
Understand this and ask someone with prior experience (or check out one of our blogs) for more on which placements may be more or less painful.

Know What You Want

If you’re clear on placement, let’s get to the fun part. When it comes to jewellery, there are all sorts of things you can opt for from rings and hoops to studs and industrial bars. Explore your options, get some input and have some sense of what kind of jewellery you want.

In any case, know you’ll have a lot to choose from.

Know it Will Require Care

The only thing worse than removing a new piercing because it’s uncomfortable is having to do so because it is infected. In order to avoid this, know that a new piercing will require a degree of care and pandering to and prepare yourself for the same.
Keep whatever you need handy such as antiseptic, antiseptic swabs and anything else you feel you might need to keep your piercing infection free.

Know all Professionals aren’t Professional

You would assume everyone offering body piercings and everyone selling you jewellery is reliable but this isn’t so. Know that there are people out there who know their stuff better than others and make sure you get your pricings from somewhere legit!
Make sure you ask around before getting your piercing or before you buy jewellery as everyone may not really have your best interests at heart. If someone wants to make a quick buck it’ll be at your expense in such a scenario— do your due diligence!

Winding Down

If you’re clear with the adults at home and have read the tips above, you can start looking for places to get that piercing. Once you do, you can check out a whole lot of brilliant body piercing jewellery including nose rings, bars, ear rings and a lot more for sale online. Happy piercing lovelies!
